The 2 major flaws of dating app profiles

(Este artigo encontra-se propositadamente escrito em inglês porque é uma carta aberta, de âmbito internacional, às aplicações de encontros sobre a identidade de género e etária que por aqui já falei)

Dear dating apps,

I'm writing this open letter to you, so you can understand the 2 major issues that your profiles are creating.

Let's start with gender. Since we are able to change our gender sometime in the future, and me, as a man, searching for women, see men in my suggestions, I guess you're considering the gender identity. Well, gender identity theory is actually based on 2 definitions: biological sex and the social construct of gender, aka gender identity. So, my question is: how can I choose my biological sex and the biological sex of the people that I'm looking for? Why? Because, in dating, for the most of us, roughly 90% of all users (the ones that don't identify themselves as LGBT), the only thing that matters is the biological sex! Example: as a man searching for women, I wouldn't mind to date a woman that identifies herself as a male (e.g. tomboy), however, I would definitely NOT date a man that identifies himself as a female; treating him as a woman is very different than seeing him as a girlfriend! You see the point, right? So, why the only filter about gender is the one that doesn't really matter? This is making most of us really annoyed, because I see profiles that I don't want to, and additionally, you're also disappointing non-cisgender users for something that does not apply to reality at all!

The other main issue is the age. Ok, I get it, it is in our right to know the age of someone we're dating. However, believe me when I tell you that the most important thing is not the chronological age but the age identity! On some apps we can even choose our zodiac sign, which is ridiculous because it is calculated from our birthdate, but ok, let it be... however, the question remains: why can't we choose the age to which we identify ourselves? Example: I'm searching for 30-year-old women and I find a woman with 40 years old that looks like (and feels like) a 30-year-old girl! Hell, I would definitely date her! However, if I find a woman with 30 years old but looks like a 40-year-old woman (you know, smoking and drugs can do that!), I would NOT date her! So, if people look at me and say that it seems that I am 6 years younger than I really am, why shouldn't I be able state that on my profile? Won't you think it would be fair?

In conclusion, I'm proposing that you add the following (really important!) new attributes to your profiles (and filters): a) age identity, it would be almost the same thing as gender identity but for age; b) biological gender/sex, because it's what really matters for 90% of everyone!
Would you be kind to make this dream (and act of justice) come true?

Thank you very much!
